The Ultimate Beauty Smoothie

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Whilst many of us tend to turn to our favourite moisturiser, make-up, hair and nail care products, and of course the trusted concealer, to create a flawless look, an increasing number of women are thinking first of what they are feeding their bodies. What you feed your skin, hair and nails from the inside is just as important as what you put on the outside. If our diet lacks the key nutrients our skin, hair and nails rely upon to look their best, this is going to show on the outside.

Simple changes to your diet can make a significant difference to how our skin, hair and nails look and feel - what’s more, you will end up saving a lot of time and money on unnecessary cosmetic beauty products that only work to mask problem areas. Instead, look to feed the body well as this will provide the best possible canvas upon which to apply your make-up, hair care, and nail varnish.

After consulting with a number of nutritionists including Amanda Hamilton and trying out different recipes, we have created a delicious smoothie recipe that we are calling The Ultimate Beauty Smoothie as it is packed with nutrients to feed skin, hair and nails from within and is easy for you to re-create at home.

Vitamin A
Lauded as an anti-aging nutrient, vitamin A helps the skin rebuild tissue and is essential for healing scars, wounds and other damage to the skin.

Vitamin C
A powerful antioxidant used to battle the signs of skin ageing as well as boosting the production of collagen, the protein responsible for keeping skin supple.

Vitamin E
An antioxidant that helps fight off free radicals that can cause premature skin ageing.

Vitamin K
May reduce the discoloration that appears under the eyes and improve the elasticity of the dermis layer. Lack of blood flow can exacerbate dark patches under the eyes and vitamin  K can rejuvenate the capillaries enhancing blood flow which reduces the incidence of these dark patches. Vitamin K can also help to maintain the concentration of a protein responsible for keeping the dermis layer supple.

Selenium
An antioxidant mineral that helps to improve tissue elasticity and prevent free radical cell damage.

Omega 3 & Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids
These polyunsaturated fats help in the formation of cell membranes keeping them supple and fluid to allow nutrients into each cell and waste out. Omega 3 supports the body’s anti-inflammatory processes and so may help reduce the incidence of inflammatory skin conditions. Omega 6 helps the body maintain hydration and if we eat enough raw, unprocessed Omega 6 then we can effectively moisturise the skin and hair from the inside.

In order to maintain a flawless look, it is important to ensure that your diet contains enough of these key nutrients. The Ultimate Beauty Smoothie below is a good way of getting the day started on the right foot!
